I'm a 25-year-old man who has been suffering from stomach pain for over a month. When the pain began, I went to the doctor, who prescribed lansoprazole 15 mg. I took them for a week, but the discomfort worsened and didn't seem to go away. I went to the hospital and was prescribed lansoprazole 30 mg, which I took for three weeks with no change. I returned to the hospital, and this time I have prescribed amoxicillin, anaerobyl, and lansoprazole again. I've been taking these tablets for five days and have yet to see any difference. What can I do to relieve the burning pain in my stomach?

Dear lybrate-user your treatment regime as of now is the usual treatment in your case. It needs to be given for at least 14 days. However, you may add antacids to give you some more relief. Also, avoid spicy food, eat easy-to-digest food, reduce fats in the diet, and take small frequent meals. You may also add natural probiotics like curd to your diet. However, milk may be restricted. Please take all necessary dietary rprecautions. All these will enhance your recovery. Hope this helps.

1. If its normal gastritis or gerd (gastro intestinal reflux disease), symptoms should have come down with just a course of ppi (proton pump inhibitors -reduce acid secretion in stomach =lansoprazole/pantaprazole etc) for a total duration of 4-6 wks. 2. If it does not come down with ppi alone, you might have an ulcer thats infected by h.pylori bacteria in stomach, for that combination of antibiotics and ppi are give for duration of 14 days. 3. If no relief of symptoms = try getting evaluated with upper gi endoscopy. 4. Usg abdomen and pelvis can be done to see any chronic pancreatits (if your diet includes excess fat/ alcohol). 5. Avoid salted smoked, spicy fatty foods, have food within 3 hrs of waking up and do not lie down for 2 hrs after having food, fiber rich diet, eater 2-3l/day. 6. You can use mucaine gel for burning sensation relief (use it 2 hrs before or after taking other medicines)
