mechanism of cognitive decline is entirely different in Alzheimer's and schizophrenia. Galantamine is used in Alzheimer's to slower the progression of cognitive decline rather to enhance cognition. it works by slowing the degradation of neurotransmitter acetylcholine by blocking the enzyme responsible for same, thereby increasing the relative availability of the neurotransmitter at neural synapse, whereas the mechanism for cognitive decline in schizophrenia is more complex and different compared to Alzheimer's so this medicine has practically no role in schizophrenia.
