Is it common for g6pd patients to have high bilirubin in lft I do routine check every year and every time my total bilirubin count stay above 2 and direct above 0.5 other parameters are normal so is it common is g6pd patients.

Hi lybrate-user, hope you are doing well, glucose 6 phospate is an enzyme which prevents oxidative stress in the body deficiency of which causes the rbcs to hemolyse which inturn causes direct billirubin to go high. Chronic high lft may be due to hemolysis. Management includes to avoid foods which cause oxidative stress like red wine, all legumes, blueberries, soya products and certain drugs like sulfa drugs, quinolones, quinine. If it is stil persisting you can consult a hematologist.
