My mother is 73 years old. Has suffered acute ischemic brain stroke recently. She is taking tab levesam 500 mg bd. She is experiencing vertigo-positional. This could be the side effect of the medicine. My question is, can we give her tab. Vertin ,to counteract her vertigo?

Hello, yes you can give a try of vertin. But the vertigo may be due to stroke or as a side effect of levetiracetam. If it is due to the drug it will mane off after 1st month of initiation. Please connect for further consultation and dose of the drug along with valid prescription.

Dear lybrate-user, positional vertigo is not a side effect of levesam. Instead it is a disease itself bppv. The drug vertin only acts when their is associated vestibular rehabilitation excercises and then treated with integrated balance therapy provided their is no bppv.in bppv treatment is by particle repositioning maneuvures and there is no role of madication.
