My 19 year old son is undergoing treatment for seizures. Previously he was taking levera 500 mg tablet. Now since last 8 months neurologist prescribed brivazen ??75 mg. Since then I feel like a lot of behavior changes are happening in him. Aggression, mood swings, and is not able to concentrate in any work. Are the side effects of brivazen ??worse than levera? The doctor has said that this medicine will last for 3 years. I told the doc about all these symptoms but he did not consider such side effects. He believe that these side effects are not there, but I am feeling like this because of brivazen. Should we switch from brivazen ??to levera again? please help me and suggest what should I do?

Brivaracetam can surely cause mood swing though less than levetiracetam. However, occasionally levetiracetam can cause less behavioral disturbances when compared to brivaracetam .there are many antiseizure drugs that does not worsen mood or anxiety like lamotrigine or carbamazepine. These two drugs rather stabilize mood. Alternatively, levetiracetam can be restarted after discussing with a neurologist as levetiracetam dose can be increased more that what your son was taking.
