Hello doctor! I am 36 years old. I had a severe cold and my nose was completely blocked. This was the first time when I completely lost my sense of smell. I visited the doctor when smell was not coming back. My doctor said that this is a condition known as anosmia. Doctor, please help me in knowing what are the complications of anosmia.

Actually, Anosmia is a complication. It may interfere with the sense of smell otherwise there are no troubles.

A person suffering from anosmia can have weight loss or malnutrition issues. Due to smell loss, an individual also fails to smell gas leaks and spoiled food. Few precautions must be taken if you are dealing with permanent anosmia. These are: consume food that has clear labeling of expiration date, bring home the chemicals such as toilet cleaners, kitchen cleaners and insecticides with proper labeling, and be careful while using electric appliances.
