Hello doctor. I am 32 years old and I recently gave birth to a baby girl. She has six fingers in her right hand. I know there are no such complications but still I do not want it. Please let me know doctor is there a cure for polydactyly and how should I get it removed?

There are several conditions for polydactyly and the treatment depends on the conditions a person shows. These include - 1) small finger duplication (there are no medical complications in this condition and hence, treatment is not required. A person, however, can go for the treatment for cosmetic reasons. Extra small fingers without bones can be removed easily. Inorder to halt the supply of blood, doctor ties a tight string on the base of the extra finger. The extra soft tissue falls on its own naturally). 2) thumb duplication (treatment involves a little complication as the extra thumb may or may not affect the functioning of the other thumb. Simply removing an extra thumb is not the option in this case, instead surgery is required to reconstruct one functioning thumb). Central polydactyly (this includes surgical options for the removal of additional central fingers).
