The main cause of gynecomastia is the imbalance between estrogen and androgen hormones. Estrogen controls the breast growth and the men's body produces it in small amounts. In few men, the estrogen hormone is produced more and it causes enlarged breasts. Overweight people also develop enlarged breasts as they have excess fatty tissue. There are other causes for enlarged breasts such as: consumption of alcohol, kidney disease, liver disease, thyroid, adrenal tumours. Few drugs and medications also may become a reason behind enlarged breasts in men. These are: male infertility, bacterial & fungal infections, anxiety, enlarged prostate, high blood pressure, and stomach ulcers. Few drugs like marijuana, opioids, and anabolic steroids.
