My mother is suffering from some kind of vascular disease in her left leg since last 20 years. She has swelling below the knee in her left leg. Hello, from the description that you have given it looks like varicose veins. In varicose veins there will be damage to valves so that the superficial veins become dilated and torturous there may be pigmentation, itching, dermatitis and swelling of the limb. Late stages ulceration may occur. These occurs more commonly in teachers, conductors where prolonged standing is required. Initially treatment is started with compression stockings.
