I am 25 years old male. I am having mild to moderate dandruff since 2-3 years. It get relieved by using ketoconazole shampoo, but reoccur as I discontinue using shampoo. Is there any permanent solution to get rid of this.

Dandruff is caused by malassezia furfur, a normal commensal on the skin, meaning everybody has it all the time. Most people have no symptoms. But in case of some people there is an overgrowth due to their particular sebum constitution and this manifests as dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis etc. It usually gets worse in winter drier climates. Better in summers. The only way to make sure there is no over growth of the fungus and no symptoms is regular use of antifungal shampoos/lotion in a frequency suited to your particular requirement that is 1-3 times a week. This can be found out by trial method. In case of very severe cases antifungal tablets may be taken which can have an effect for 3-4 months. For more details contact me.
