Brain tumors are tumorous or excessive growth of one of the part of brain presenting as mass lesion or space occupying lesion. The symptoms depend on part of the brain effected and since brain controls the entire body, symptoms may be anything depending on area involved. They usually present as head ache, vomiting, fits or seizures. They also can have paraparesis or paralysis, difficulty in speaking, visual defects, personality disorder or change in behaviour etc. There is no specific cause of brain tumors, some change in genetic makeup, and previous exposure to radiation or any injury causing genetic change may be causes but no particular risk factor can be identified. Brain tumour can be of many grades and grade 1, 2 are low grade 3, 4 are high grade. They are usually treated by surgery, where maximum safe resection is done. Treatment may be followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy depending on type and grade of tumor.
