Suffering from fissure due to constipation. I am taking duphalac syrup one teaspoon before going to bed at night. How long can I take? Is lactifiber preferable? Kindly guide.

Hey. Lactifiber contains lactitol as compared to duphalac which has lactulose. Both are good, however lactitol (lactifiber) has better taste and a bit better safety profile. However just taking laxatives isn't the treatment for fissure. You should take sits baths thrice a day and apply local sphincter relaxing ointment like anaheal/ anobliss. If your fissure dsnt heal by 3 weeks, better to consult a good surgeon or a proctologist in your area. Regards.

Hello lybrate-user, the main purpose of laxatives for treatment for anal fissure is to keep your stool soft and easy to pass. If you are already taking plenty of fibres, then osmotic laxatives like duphalac will helpful. If you are containing less fibre in diet then lactifibre will be more preferable. But remember, treatment of anal fissure depends upon two factors, avaidance of constipation by any means, and to avoid straining. Thank u.
