I'm aged 69 and identified with liver problem gross ascites. Ct scan tryphasic revealed that size of liver reduced by around 10%. Suffering from edema and swelling of abdomen. Past 3 weeks taking treatment from gastroenterologist and due to medication edema has gone down, weight reduced from 63 to 55 and waist reduced from 40 to 35. Now doctor has suggested injecting albumin 20% for 6 weeks. This being a costly treatment I want to know from you whether this can be postponed for some days or any alternative for the same.

Most likely your edema and ascites are due to protein deficiency, so unless protein is replenished, you may continue to have issues. Speak to your doctor about oral protein supplements, to see if that is a feasible option for you. You may also consult with a palliative care institution, which may help you get the injections or supplements for free or at subsidized rates. Also, you can get in touch with distributors directly who can get you heavy discounts on the products.
