My husband's uric acid level was 9.9 a month before. He was a regular drinker but quit completely about 3 month's back he has been prescribed feburic 80 mg once a day. Will this medicine affect his liver, though he has no liver problems per se. Also he consumes freshwater fish everyday and plenty of vegetables and fruits. He does not touch red/ organ meats and does not consume outside food or junk food. Also he takes 4-5 litres of water a day. No tea, coffee, soda, aerated drinks etc. How long should he take feburic 80 mg? Please advise.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. The uric acid level given is quite high. It needs to be brought closer 6 mg or lower /100 ml. Therefore, he may have to take febustat for quite a long time which could be 6 months plus. It is essential to check the uric acid level at least once in 3 months and based on that one can decide on continuation of the tablets. Fresh water fish seem to have less urea generating property than the sea fish. It is good to know that he has maintained a very good food habit and stopped taking alcohol. Because alcohol is not helpful in reducing uric acid levels. Thanks.
