Dear lybrate-user, daxid is not a long medicine. Rarely it is given for more than 6-9 months in few rare disorders like dysthymia. Please discuss with your psychiatrist about the diagnosis and its long term use. She/he needs to assess the long term side effects also periodically. You can take therapy to manage your depression and try to stop daxid.

It depends on multiple factors like the clinical diagnosis, intensity of the illness at the start of treatment, the extent of dysfunction, genetic risk and how you adjust when your dose gets reduced or missed. After evaluating these factors, then only your doctor would be able to tell the duration of your treatment.
