Amlopres is actually amylodepine, which is a calcium channel blocker. At 42 years there is risk of aggravation of bp during pregnancy which will need higher dose of the drug. During the 5 the to 13th week, whilst the baby's organs are forming, any drug therapy can be detrimental. It may be advisable to switch to safer drugs for bp like alfa methyldopa during the first 3 months and then switch back or add amylodepine later if necessary. Besides this there may be some risk of growth retardation in the baby as well. These issues are not absolute and should not cause unnecessary worry, since it is also possible to have a full term health baby as well, if managed by an experienced doctor. They will keep a close watch and treat if and when a problem arises.
