Knee pain in elderly is commonly due to osteoarthritis which means degeneration of joint cartilage causing friction between joint surfaces, leading to pain and stiffness. Lifestyle modifications and physical therapy are important treatment aspects to maintain functionality. 1. Knee stretching and strengthening exercises to improve knee strength. 2. Avoid jogging or physical activity that increases knee pain. But absolute rest is not advised. Engage in activity like swimming or walking , but perform activity which is painless 3. Application of analgesic cream over knee and warm fomentation before exercises. Apply cold pack after exercises 4. Weight loss to keep BMI around 25 to 28. 5. Simple analgesics like paracetamol when pain is present. 6. When pain or disability is significant, intra articular viscoelastic injection or PRP injection is helpful. * Injections of Viscoelastic substance or artificial synovial fluid into knee joint decreases friction in joint space *Injections of Platelet rich plasma derived from patients own blood into the knee joint. This regenerates the knee joint. * In patients with severe pain, genicular nerve block can be given to decrease pain. 7. In advanced cases Knee replacement is the only option.
