So you have diabetes, so what's next? 1. You should definitely get good. First of all, you should start liking your eating plans and physical exercise schedules needs to be reframed. 2. Eating with diabetes doesn't mean starvation, you can eat but you should eat right and avoid certain foods. In fact, if you are a foodie then you should choose healthier options or the one which don't harm you. 3. Nachos can be great option if you are starving and walk in the restaurant. It has lesser calories and carbs as compared to other fattening foods. Battered fish dinners can be a great option when managing with your weight and diabetes. 4. Avoid fried foods if you are having diabetes. Indian traditional snack of roasted black gram seeds is great on providing energy and nutrition but resist the carbs intake. It's helpful as diabetic food. List is endless. 5. Ayurveda medicines, herbals, naturals can be of great help. You have high chances of depending solely on these if you are not insulin dependent yet. These may have (or my not) to be life long but then what's the difference between taking ayurveda if to be taken for life? there's benefit. There will be no side effect (if taken as per ayurveda doctor's/ vaidya's directions), which is not possible in modern, rapid, toxic medicines. Some remedies such as cinnamon decoction/ strain are excellent weight reducers as well as blood glucose regulators similar to'periploca of the woods' or'ram's horn (meshashringi)' but latter is not known as weight reducer'paneer ka phool' - withania coagulans reduces blood sugar as well as cholesterol. So selection of medicines has to be as per set of symptoms a patient presents. Quality selection of herbs is also important e. G. Cinnamon of dark color is not much beneficial and regular and more concentrated decoction may harm too while ceylon cinnamon is more results oriented.

Dear Lybrate User, One of the major nutritional substance required for human body is carbohydrate. We take carbohydrate in the form of rice, wheat, sugar etc. The complex molecules of carbohydrate are broken down into simple glucose molecules during digestion & released in the blood stream to be absorbed by the muscle cells. Muscle cells utilise the glucose molecules to release energy by breaking down those glucose molecules. Insulin hormone plays a vital role in the absorption of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells. In abnormal conditions, either due to less production of insulin or due to resistance to insulin, the process of absorption of glucose by the muscles comes to a stand still. The glucose molecules remains in the bloodstream which results in the increase in the blood sugar level. The failure of utilisation of the glucose molecules by the muscle cells results in production of less energy than normal condition. This is externally manifested as the fatigue & tiredness of the patient. This excess amount of blood sugar compels the kidney to function more than normal level in order to excrete the blood sugar molecules through urine. As a result the patient suffers from frequent urination. This abnormal condition is clinically known as DIABETES MELLITUS. Once a patient is diagnosed with Diabetes he has to take regular medicine to keep his blood sugar level within normal limits. However, the patient does not need to take medicine unless his/her Post. Prandial Blood Sugar level reaches 200. If Post. Prandial Blood Sugar level reaches 200 then patient should take the following Homoeopathic medications:- 1)Homeopathic URANIUM NIT 3X TABLETS (R.S. BHARGAVA company). Take one tablet thrice daily, in empty stomach 2) 30 drops of Homeopathic Mother Tincture GYMNEMA SYLVESTRA Q, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water Along with intake of medicines the patient need to walk at least 1 hour daily without any interval. In order to decrease the intake of carbohydrate in diet the patient should avoid rice, sweet dishes, fruits, cold drinks, fast foods, alcoholic beverages, potato etc

Thank you for the query. It would have been helpful if you would have mentioned your Fasting blood sugar, 2 hrs post prandial sugar and HbA1c level. 1. If your HbA1c level is less than 7.5%, it would imply a fair control on blood sugar. Dietary regimen (avoidance of refined carbohydrate-pasta, white bread, noodles, burgers etc and carbonated beverages) and exercise (30 min per day for 5 days a week) may be helpful. Sometimes, a low dose of the medicine metformin may be added, which may be beneficial. 2. If the HbA1c level is more than 7.5% one or more oral medications are used in addition to diet and exercise. The medications are given as per the patient's tolerance. 3. If HbA1c is more than 9% it is advisable to go for Insulin. However, if someone is completely non-compliant or averse to Insulin a combination of 2 or more drugs may be used with caution. 4. Since you are diabetic for 4 years it is advisable to get the following tests done if not done already Urine for spot ACR- to check the renal status Eye check up - to rule out diabetic retinopathy. 5. Foot care is very important and even a minor injury must be taken care of. 6. Always remember whatever dietary intake you are having, your calorie intake must be less or equal to our calorie expenditure. It is advisable to get a diet chart done, as per your body weight and activity level. 7. You can take a course of vitamin B complex for nerve protection. Please consult a physician for further advise. Regards.
