My wife has episceleretis and the doctor has said not to use any drops or steroids and instead has given ibuprofen 400 mg 3 times a day. She had shown 3 doctors before and no respite, as the redness of eye would reoccur in 1 month, is this the right treatment what she has now, please guide.

Hello for episcleritis, we usually recommend NSAID eyedrop like ACULAR LS eyedrop thrice daily...if it persists then soft steroid like FML 4 times daily is prescribed in case of recurrence, we investigate the patient for underlying systemic disease

Episcleritis has different types. One of them is diffuse anterior Episcleritis. This is commonest variety. Usually self limiting with episodes lasting 1-4 weeks sometimes longer. Has a remitting relapsing course. Except for redness, nothing to worry about. Other varieties may be associated with systemic disease. So whether she is on right treatment is subjective since I don't know the type or severity.

Episcleritis is a recurrent disease. It's an inflammatory condition. You should use a mild steroid drop in tapering dose ( ex- Tobastar F eye drop 6 times x 4days 5times. X 4days ..... till once x 4days ) By this time redness of d eyes will go away, then start Flur eye drop 3 times for 3 months The recurrence rate will go down to a large extent with this treatment.
