Hi. My dad 58 years old diabetic and hypertensive patient. He had thorn prick 6 months back or so. Later the thorn was removed by my mom using a sharp object like pin after heating it. The thorn was removed n he had pain and the area was bit hard few days back. I thought it might be corn so I applied a corn cap by Apollo for it. The hard thing has fallen and area is normal and no pain and area of foot is normal. Later two days back I saw that corn caps are contraindicated in diabetics. I wanted to ask was it grave mistake. Or do I have to observe anything.

lybrate-user, In a person with diabetes, particularly in a middle aged or older person, it very essential to avoid using all such methods like using a pin to remove a thorn, applying a corn cap or poking sharp needle etc. Because there is possibility of affection of blood supply to the lower limb, and also neuropathy, which may have already affected sensory fibers. All these can lead to serious problems causing infection, ulceration and spreading of ulcer or leading up to amputation. So one should never do any such attempts at home. It is better to get his foot properly examined by your local doctor, to see if there is any problem. Thanks.
