It is an acute epidemic disease or infection of the small intestines, caused by the bacterium vibrio cholerae (microorganisms of cholera) generally occurring in the East-Asia or in rainy season of summer, when the growth of flies is in full swing; the flies carry the cholera infection (Vibrio cholerae) with their legs, from one place to other, and spread cholera in the locality. In cholera severe vomiting and diarrhoea takes with the evacuation of copious, "rice-water" stools, accompanied by agonising (mental torturing), crampy pains, much thirst, suppression of urine, cramps in calves of legs. severe fainting and collapse - with cold body, cold sweat and imperceptible slow feeble pulse. After an incubation period of 1-5 days, cholera symptoms as said above comence suddenly among the masses of the people living in the locality. Sometimes death is caused after extreme dehydration due to cholera vomiting and purging. Cholera breaks out in the locality by eating infectious food and drinking water - contaminated with cholera micro-organisms (by drinking water -contaminated with faeces of a cholera patient.) and spreads quickly due to poor sanitary conditions in the area. Morality (death rate) becomes more. TYPES OF CHOLERA. See also cures for various types of cholera. 1. Cholera simple or cholerine: It is caused by dietetic error or by eating fungoid food. 2.
