My wife is pregnant and is getting treated in a hospital abroad. 40! weeks, amniotic 70, foetal heart beat monitoring - good, oxytocin gave good contraction but cervix did not open. Dr. suggested cesarean but as we preferred normal Dr. sent home asking to drink more water and walk a lot waiting for labour. misoprostol or cerviprime gel are preferred here as Dr. fear that it could lead to uncontrolled contraction. What can be done to improve the probability of normal delivery.

Hi Walking and drinking warm water is what you can do. But I feel that at 40 wks you should not wait too much for spontaneous pain, You should give trial with misoprost/cervigel initially and then oxytocine as per doctor's assessment. In controlled dosage it does not lead to uncontrolled contractions.

Pt has to be induced with mesoprost or syntocinon in a controlled manner in a hospital set up. Close monitoring by CTG is needed. Warm water and walking at 40 wks will not help.
