She is 93. Had bedsores and high protein deficiency is there due to which her arms and legs are uncontrollably swollen. Doctors r giving hermin injections for protein and meramac injections for bacterial infection of bedsores. Just want to ask can this protein deficiency affect liver or any other organ also of hers? She is completely bedridden due to age.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. From the information given, it is clear that her intake must severely affected, which has led to severe protein deficiency. Protein deficiency affects muscle mass, over all energy level. There is no liver damage or any other organ damage. But as the patient is bed ridden, mscle strength goes down due to inactivity and low intake. Bed sore occur because of bony points rub on the bed, the skin over those areas gives way and ulceration occurs due to lack of proper blood circulation in those areas. Along with injections it is better if her oral intake improves. Thanks.
