Dear Sir, There is lot of improvements in the treatment of colorectal cancer. For liver metastases, the treatment has to be individualised. What we follow at our hospital is a customised approach. First we will do imaging of the patient to see where are the site of metastases. If it is restricted to only one site like liver, then we call it oligometastases. Here if the liver tumour is operable, then we do upfront surgery, else we start chemotherapy and reassess. A combination of chemotherapy, judicious use of surgery and liver directed therapies like RFA, MWA and/or TACE can often ensure a survival of 2 -3 years. But it all depends on the general condition of the patient and the tumour burden and number of metastases. Needless to say all these new technologies are a bit costly. But yes, often 2 year survival is possible in properly selected cases of colon cancer with metastases.
