See, it depends on what type of exposure you're talking about. A needle exposure or a bloodborne exposure. Carries higher risks as compared to a sexual. Exposure. So depending on the type of exposure. And severity of the exposure, we can measure the timing required for a conclusive test. Usually it is from anywhere from four weeks to six months. After six months, if it is negative or non reactive, we can definitely say that your result is negative in almost. All of the cases you need to confirm it via two different methods. First is rna viral load and the second one is eliza 4th generation. A non-reactive result, such as 0.02, generally indicates that hiv antibodies and p24 antigen were not detected in the blood sample. However, for conclusive results, it's important to consider the window period, which is the time it takes for the body to produce detectable levels of antibodies or antigens after hiv infection. Most healthcare professionals consider a 4th generation hiv test to be conclusive at around 6 weeks post-exposure. Some guidelines recommend confirming the result with a follow-up test at around 12 weeks (3 months) after exposure to ensure accuracy. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional or an hiv specialist who can evaluate your specific situation and provide appropriate advice based on your circumstances. They can consider the timing of the test, the specific test used, and any other relevant factors to provide you with a more accurate interpretation of your test result. It's always best to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and guidance regarding hiv testing and interpretation of results.

Good evening Mr. lybrate-user. Window period is the time taken for any organism from the day of its entry into the body till to the day we are able to diagnose it in the blood. Each disease has its own window period. Every foriegn body has its own antigen which is identified by the body and produces antibodies specific to that foreign organism. Hence we test for either antigen or antibody and sometimes both to diagnose the disease. Any person who got infected with hiv, starts developing hiv antibodies after 1- 2 weeks and we can perform antigen test around 1st week, pcr test at 10-14 days and simple rapid test for antibodies after 21- 28 days. Any person if infected with hiv, he will be diagnosed within 3 months maximum for antibodies and if not, then definitely by 180 days since exposure and then only we could consider it as conclusive. In your case its 20 days since your exposure so I request you to go for antibody test or rapid or tridot test after 28 days. Even though its negative, please repeat the antibody test after 90 days and finally at 180 days since your exposure. So please stop worrying, test after 28 days. Watch out for development of any symptoms. And feel free to contact me with the results. I have more than 10 year experience treating hiv and my patient's safety and privacy are my first priority.

I am sorry to hear about your concern but will be happy to assist you. The hiv test spoken about is a test which uses colour bands to determine if a test is positive or negative for the hiv antigen. A control band appears to confirm that the test strip is working correctly and that the result band if positive has not appeared by error. If there is just the control band and the test band does not appear it means the test is negative ie the sample used does not contain hiv. The test should be repeated after three months as there is a window period let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.
