Dear lybrate-user, You can choose either pain or painless DPT vaccine. Both are effective. If you have received the primary dose i.e. At 1.5,2.5 and 3.5 months then this is just a booster. Your primary series is actually determining the effect you get. The boosetrs just prolong that effect for longer duration.

Hello lybrate-user. First of all I want to make it clear to you that there is no absolutely painless vaccine. Every vaccine, whether large or small needle is used, has to be given by prick only. And this will surely cause some pain for your baby. Inj. Pentaxim consists of DPT, IPV and Hib. 5 components. It has not been available for quite some time now. Hence most of the doctors give oral polio drops and quadravax injection with DPT and Hib. Anyways you can enquire with nearby doctors once. Hope this helped you!

The painless and painful varieties are only for DPT which is part of vaccination at 6, 10 and 14wks. The difference is the reaction they cause both locally and systemically. Painful DPT had more local pain, swelling, redness and also more fever and irritability. All these are much less in painless type. The effectiveness of both is almost the same. However Indian academy of Pediatric advises to give painful variety for 6 10 14wks immunisation.(except in case of severe side effects due to painful type)

Pentaxim is banned in India and other countries. The WHO has advised all countries to stop giving this vaccine. Some recent studies proved that the Pertusis vaccine included in the Pentaxim does not work. Pediatricians know about this issue but some continue giving. It is wise though for us mom to be aware of it. I think you should go for the painful ones. Its ok if your baby will suffer fever and pain for couple of days if that means there is no chance of him getting any of those diseases later on in life. But then again, it is your choice. Just choose what is best for your baby. :) You can switch over and there is no problem
