Abnormal sperm production in men can stem from many factors such as undescended testicles (testicles which fail to move to the scrotum), health problems including diabetes and infections such as mumps. Overexposure to pesticides, radiations, smoke and alcohol can also induce infertility in both men and women. Primary ovarian insufficiency is a condition where the ovaries stop working and the menstrual cycle ends before women turn 40.

Studies have revealed that men who consume soy-based foods on an average daily basis have a sperm count per milliliter which is 32 percent less than men who do not consume soy-based foods. The reason is that soy-based foods have mild estrogenic effects which are detrimental to a man's fertility.
