Brow Lift: Treatment, Cost and Side Effects
Last Updated: Dec 20, 2024
What is the Brow Lift?
Brow lift treatment is required when a person wants to remove the horizontally developed wrinkles which are present across the forehead. It is also used for the wrinkles that develop on the bridge of the nose, in between the eyes. With the help of a brow lift you can improve the frown lines and the vertical creases which start developing between the eye brows. The brows which start sagging and are hooding the upper eyelid can be raised with this brow lift. A youthful and alert position is given to the eyebrows making your face look refreshed and radiant.
Different cosmetic surgeons use different techniques for the procedure. The requirement of the patient and the amount of changes needed determine the type of procedure which will be chosen by the surgeon. The doctor can choose an endoscopic brow lift, a temporal brow lift, a classic or coronal brow lift or a brow lift surgery and recovery, depending on the needs of the patient. You will need a consultant before going through with the procedure. The patient will be expected to talk about their goals, their medical history and current health as well. Another important thing to note is that, the patient may have to make certain important lifestyle changes before getting the brow lift treatment.
How is the Brow Lift treatment done?
An endoscopic brow lift which has recently become extremely popular among surgeons, is a less invasive surgery which gives just as desirable a look as any other technique. A series of very short incisions will be made on the area under your hairline which is followed by using a thin instrument and a special camera to reposition and lift the underlying tissues of the forehead. On the other hand a temporal or limited incision brow lift requires making a slightly longer incision than in the endoscopic surgery. This procedure is actually a conjunction in the procedure of an eyelid surgery. In this procedure, incisions are made above each of the temple and just behind the hairline. These incisions allow the surgeon to lift and reposition the tissues around the outer brow area. The area between the eyebrows are lifted and smoothened to remove the frown lines, through the incision which is made for the upper eyelid procedure.
The coronal or classic brow lift surgery is another old school method used to lift the brow and give the desired look to the patient. In this procedure a long incision is made behind the hairline which runs from ear to ear. This allows the surgeons to remove the remaining skin and fat and giving a more rejuvenated look to the patient.
Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)
Any individual who is unsatisfied with his/her brow and want the excessive fat, tissue and skin to be removed can opt for this treatment. Generally, people above the age of 45 tend to go for the brow lift procedure. However, this treatment is open to any adult who wants to change their look.
Who is not eligible for the treatment?
Children are strictly advised not to go under the knife for the procedure of brow lifting.
Are there any side effects?
Going through a brow lift surgery comes with its own sets of complications. After getting the surgery you may observe issues of numbness in the area of the incision, along with on the top of the scalp which may soon turn into itching. The surgery can also leave you with a bruise and swelling around the cheeks and eyes.
What are the post-treatment guidelines?
The stitches and staples present in your face after the surgery will be removed after a week of the procedure. If any temporary fixation screws were used then the surgeon would remove them as well. The swelling in the face will also go in a week or so. Doctors will advise you to keep your head lifted for at least two days after the surgery in order to ease the swelling on the face. You can also apply ice packs on your face gently.
How long does it take to recover?
After a day of the surgery you will be encouraged to walk around the house. On the second day itself, patients can shower while being gentle around the areas of incision. It takes around 1-2 weeks after the surgery to get back to your daily routine and resume all the activities. After 2-4 weeks of the surgery, you can resume exercising as well. However, you should consult your cosmetic surgeon to know more about what activities are permitted and what is not.
What is the price of the treatment in India?
The price of the treatment for a brow lifting surgery varies from one facility to another. Other factors which determine the cost of this procedure are the type and amount of work required. Typically the starting cost of this treatment in India is from Rs 1.5 lakhs. However, it keeps increasing depending on the place and type of surgery you require.
Are the results of the treatment permanent?
A brow lift surgery helps people look younger with a rejuvenated look on their faces; however the natural process of aging cannot stop under any circumstance. Even then, the results can last for years after the surgery if you opt for a well experienced surgeon for the procedure.
What are the alternatives to the treatment?
If you are not willing to go for a brow lift surgery, you can use the alternative of going for botox or a brow-pexy procedure which is much less invasive. Using botox or disport can help relax the muscle which pulls the brow down thereby allowing the muscles to elevate the brow.
