Chin Augmentation: Treatment, Cost and Side Effects

Last Updated: Dec 25, 2024

What is the treatment ?

Chin cosmetic surgery is a trending excellent choice for people whose chin is out of shape when compared to the rest of the face. Chin enhancement is accomplished using facial implants. Chin reduction, chin enlargement, and chin enhancement are the commonly preferred ones. Chin reduction is usually recommended when jaws become less prominent. It adds balance and proportion to facial features. Neck starts appearing fleshy when the chin is out of shape. Sometimes it makes the appearance of nose large and awkward. In such cases, chin enlargement is performed so that facial features remain intact and are become balanced with each other. Mostly chin implantations are performed along with some other surgeries like Rhinoplasty. The only motive of the combination is the balance. The overall facial proportions get rebalance and the size of the nose seems reduced when Rhinoplasty is done in combination with chin implantation.

It is also accompanied by liposuction and facelift. Removal of fat is accomplished by a neck liposuction and a well-defined structure can be obtained by a chin implant. This gives a more youthful appearance and a balanced facial structure. The excess skin is removed through a facelift which can tighten the underlying layer of muscles. This combination can really bring good results along with saving time and money on anesthesia.

How is the treatment done?

Chin enlargement surgery is performed using chin implants which can supplement bone beneath the teeth and in front of the jaw. The implant artificially given can give strength and boost to the skin as it sits permanently under the skin. This can redefine the shape and balance of the chin. This technique gives a simplified, balanced and a natural look for the patients.

It is an outpatient surgery performed according to the surgeon’s availability. Sometimes it is also performed at the hospital. The surgery duration and the procedure depend upon different factors, but it is usually done within 45 minutes to one and a half hours. Depending on the patient’s condition local anesthesia may be used. An incision is made during the operation under the chin or between the lower lip and the gum inside the mouth. These incisions may trigger bacteria inside the mouth but they do not result in any harmful scarring. The chin implant is positioned and inserted into the jawbone’s front once the incisions are made. The surgeons analyze the positions and check for proper balance and how well it is in proportion with other facial features. The implant can be adjusted or modified until a proper look is achieved. When a satisfactory look is achieved the chin implant is fixed into the place and surgery comes to a completion. The implant will dissolve in 10 days inside the mouth. The implants fixed outside will be removed once the inside ones get dissolved.

Who is eligible for the treatment?(When is the treatment done ?)

These surgeries can offer many benefits. It imparts good look and self-confidence among people. The eligible candidates for the treatment are those with recessed chin, whose skin may tend to have a pointed or squared appearance, one with a prominent nose, those who are having fleshy necks. This surgery can add balance to the nose and defined structure to the jaw. It can redefine the appearance of the large nose. To obtain maximum benefits chin surgery is often done in combination with liposuction and Rhinoplasty.

The eligibility for the treatment for the disease can be best diagnosed by the specialist doctor. It is therefore advised that the patient consults the doctor before undergoing any specific treatment. Doctors on examining the conditions shall decide the eligibility for the treatment.

You may have to take some pain medications post surgery. The post-surgery medications include the following. An antibiotic after the surgery for infection prevention. Pain medications to reduce discomfort after the surgery. Arnica to minimize the bruising and vitamin c 3000mg along with daily food for one week to aid the healing process. What is the price of the treatment in India?

The price of the surgery will depend on the surgeon, facilities in the hospital, city where you opt the surgery and the type of surgery recommended for you. Usually, it starts with Rs 1,00,000 and depending upon the quality it can range up to Rs 3,60,000. On an average, the price in India for chin augmentation can be estimated at Rs 1, 65,000.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

The chin augmentation has two options one is the surgical one where silicone implant is placed in the chin to redefine the structure. Once this done it must impart a strong and natural look to the jawline. This can give somewhat permanent results. The other option is injecting a filler composed of hyaluronic acid which will add volume to your chin. The results of the latter case can last for a few months. Another approach involves placing the implant through a small incision beneath the chin, this tends to have reduced discomfort and fewer chances for infection.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

mandibular osteotomy is a surgery which can serve as an alternative to chin augmentation. This requires a stay in the hospital. Temporary skin filler injections are the other available option. Sliding genioplasty surgery is another surgical alternative for chin augmentation. Lots of skin care products are up in the market which can be used to treat minor issues.
