Lifestyle and diet changes are essential if you are trying to combat high blood pressure. However, it is important to do more than just exercise and eat right. You can also look at complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) for high blood pressure. These additional measures can complement your existing conventional treatments.

Here are some common CAM treatments that can help lower high blood pressure –

Life can be stressful at times. However, if you let stress get the upper hand, your high blood pressure will likely remain elevated. Regardless of why you are stressed or worried, you should try to reduce your blood pressure levels. Engage in relaxing and peaceful meditation. This will keep your body and mind rejuvenated.

  • Biofeedback

Apart from the conventional treatment for hypertension, biofeedback is one of the most reliable ways to treat high blood pressure. In this procedure, a sensor is connected to your body using wires. The biofeedback readings help you pinpoint, which of your lifestyle choices is causing the problem. It also helps you rectify all of these issues.

  • Acupuncture

The efficiency of acupuncture in treating high blood pressure has been recognized far and wide. Medical practitioners believe that inserting needles into the various pressure points of the body helps against high blood pressure.

  • Slow breathing exercises

Taking slow and controlled breaths from alternate nostrils for 10-15 minutes may help lower your blood pressure. Also called Pranayama, this technique is a part of yoga. Note that you should consult your physician before you start the practice.

While complementary and alternative medicine for hypertension does help regulate blood pressure, you should never stop taking the drugs that your doctor prescribes. Make sure you take the medicines and practice these complementary remedies at the same time to get the best results. Talk to your physician before starting or stopping any medication for your high blood pressure.
