Cryolipolysis: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects
Last Updated: Oct 30, 2024
What is the treatment?
Cryolipolysis is a medical treatment used to destroy fat cells by freezing, and is also known as cool sculpting.
How is the treatment done?
The Cryolipolysis is a type of medical treatment generally done to destroy the fat cells in the body by freezing. The treatment works on a normal principle which is controlled by the application of cooling and freezing, within the temperature range of +5 to −5 centigrade. The body cells are non-invasive with a localized reduction of the fat deposits. The Cryolipolysis treatment works in order to reshape the different contours of the body and the degree of exposure to cooling causes an apoptosis (also called cell death) of the subcutaneous fat tissue, without causing apparent damage to the overlying skin. It is a medical procedure, which is nonsurgical alternative to the liposuction Cryolipolysis is a process of freezing of fat and specifically designed cryolipolysis machines are used in the aesthetic clinics and spas; which is popular by the term Cool Sculpting.
The Cryolipolysis treatment is used to remove fat from the certain areas of the body which are just under the skin to a contour of a person. Evidence has supported its effectiveness at three to four months. It appears primarily applicable to only a limited discrete of the fat bulges. Though it is not known how long the treatment effect will last, or when and if later treatments would be necessary to maintain the result.
Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)
The Cool Sculpting procedure or Cryolipolysis is used in rounded paddles in one of four sizes to suction your skin and fat will be reduced. The skin is taken into a vacuum, where you need to sit in a reclined chair for up to two to three hours, and cooling panels will be set to work for crystallizing your fat cells. It may cause mild discomfort but people can tolerate Cryolipolysis pretty well. The suction and cooling sensations will eventually feel you go numb and the procedural setting is very relaxing.
You need to take a few treatments or sessions of Cryolipolysis to get to your optimum results, as a single treatment will yield very minimal change in the body. The Cryolipolysis process can eventually reduce up to 25 percent of the body fat at the contours, and the reduction will only take place in the treatment area, and not the whole body. Doctors often suggest for mild fat reduction which will help to reduce the waistline, and slightly improve the waistline, with less bulging of any particular area which might be concerning to you.
Who is not eligible for the treatment?
No matter what type of skin you have, you are eligible to seek the Cryolipolysis treatment to loosen fat by freezing. Though it is recommended to visit a dermatologist or your doctor to understand the process, and what will be your most effective way to lose fat.
Are there any side effects?
If you have any type of skin problems or you have any health, you are not eligible to seek the Cool Sculpting treatment through the freezing measure.
What are the post-treatment guidelines?
There are multiple side effect of Cool Sculpting or Cryolipolysis like Transient local redness, bruising and numbness of the skin. These are the common side effects of the Cryolipolysis treatment which are expected to subside. Typically the sensory deficits will subside within a month, and the effects will decrease with time. The effect on the peripheral nerves have failed to show any type of permanent detrimental results, and also there are no serious long lasting side effects for Cryolipolysis.
How long does it take to recover?
There are no form of specific post treatment guidelines for the Cryolipolysis treatment. But if you face some sort of skin problem, or any internal problem, it is advised to visit the doctor immediately.
You should minimize exposure to the direct sun for a few weeks. You should avoid certain types of food or make certain changes in their lifestyle like yoga or exercise, as the several cells have died due to Cryolipolysis, it is advisable to perform certain activities so the body can function properly and steadily. Apart from this, there are no specific guidelines for the Cryolipolysis treatment.
Are the results of the treatment permanent?
In India the treatment is still not famous, but is quite costly. The treatment varies from one metro to another, but will cost somewhere between Rs. 15000 to Rs. 65000 (tentative figures).
What are the alternatives to the treatment?
The results are not permanent, but a few more sessions are taken, it might have some effect on the body for a longer time.
