It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina. In some people with diabetic retinopathy, blood vessels may swell and leak fluid. In other people, abnormal new blood vessels grow on the surface of the retina. But over time, diabetic retinopathy can get worse and cause vision loss. You should discuss your complete medical history over a call to get a better and effective treatment.

Diabetes is a condition which can cause many problems. Control of blood sugar, blood pressure and other things like weight loss and dietary advice are essential. A good diabetologist or Endocrinologist should be able to advise your mother about these things. As far as the retinopathy is concerned I would need to see details of her vision and eye examination findings, to be able to give any meaningful advise.

These symptoms could be related to diabetic complications. It's important to control your blood sugar levels strictly. Homeopathic remedies like syzygium jambolanum may help in managing diabetes, but please consult me immediately for the swelling and back pain, as they might indicate kidney or cardiovascular issues.
