Do you know common facts about Diabetes?
The main source of energy for body is glucose which comes from the food that we eat. When the body is unable to convert glucose into energy, it results in high amount of glucose in the body, a condition known as Diabetes.
Insulin is an essential hormone which helps in the conversion of glucose into energy. When the body is no longer able to produce insulin (by pancreas) or use it effectively, it leads to diabetes.
The two main forms are Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is characterized by lack of insulin production. It is usually diagnosed in children. Type 2 Diabetes usually affects adults and occurs when the body does not use insulin properly or cannot produce adequate insulin or both.
Regular blood tests are done i.e. fasting (FPG) and post-prandial (PPG) to diagnose Diabetes. If your FPG is > 126 and PPG is > 200, then it confirms the diagnosis of Diabetes.
