Double Chin: Treatment, Cost and Side Effects

What is the Double Chin?

Double chin treatment is required for people who want to get rid of the layer of fat which forms under the chin. According to popular belief, double chins are associated with gaining weight, but this is not the case as people who are fit and thin can also have one. The problem can arise because of genes or loose skin problems associated to aging. There are a number of methods to get rid of a double chin. Lipolysis or liposculpture is one of the most popular methods of surgically removing face fat. This method uses heat from the laser to melt away the excessive fat from the face. Most of the cases require only local anesthesia to during the procedure of liposuction in order to treat double chin. However, you need to note than liposuction does not remove extra skin but simply melts away the excessive fat.

Another method of removing the double chin is through a surgery called mesotherapy which is a minimally invasive procedure used to delivery very small amounts of fat dissolving compounds with the help of injections. An acid called deoxycholic was sanctioned by the U.S Food and Drug Administration in 2015 to be used in the procedure. The acid helps in absorbing the body fat easily. You may need 20 injections per treatment to treat the problem. Six treatments in total may be required for the double chin to reduce significantly. It is recommended to wait for at least a month in between the treatments.

Lipolysis has side effects like easy bruising, swelling and paining in the concerned area. On the other hand, mesotherapy can have complications like swelling, numbness, redness, pain and bruising.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

You need to be very careful about not irritating the area under your chin after going through sessions of the surgery. If you planned to take the natural route, excessive eating should strictly be avoided and exercising regularly is advised.

How long does it take to recover?

If the concerned person has undergone a lipolysis surgery, it may take two to three weeks time to recover completely and be able to do strenuous tasks. Mesotherapy needs a period of 24 to 48 hours for the swelling and redness to reduce.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The medical surgeries for removing double chin can be expensive. These surgeries need multiple sittings which charge for every session. The liposuction surgery for the chin may come up to Rs 27,000 – Rs 50,000. Mesotherapy may also come up to the same level or may be slightly more expensive than lipolysis.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

The results of these surgeries lasts for a very long period of time. However, you may notice that the skin starts becoming lose and gaining weight under the chin area gradually. In order to avoid such a situation, make sure to exercise regularly and not gain weight.

The alternative for double chin treatment is to maintain a healthy weight and exercise regularly. In order to get rid of the double chin naturally, you need to eat healthy and keep exercising regularly.
