Fistula take long time to heal depending upon variety. So it may be healing or early recurrance difficult to say without seeing the patient.

Hello. First I want to clarify your doubt that it's not that your surgery was unsuccessful. Perianal abscess is an emergency procedure to drain the pus out, nothing else.
Second it's not that your abscess developed into fistula rather it's reverse that you already had an underlying fistula which presented as an abscess.
I would recommend you to get an Mr. fistulogram done and then consultant a good general surgeon or a proctosurgeon.

Mostly fistula treat by open wound, its taking some time for granulation, important thing is you should clean that area by sitz bath. Nothing to worry.

I think previously you r undergone surgery for perianal abscess. Coming to present scenario is there anu pus discharge? Fever? Any external opening?

Dear Lybarte User, Please flush the wound 3-4 times a day with normal saline. High fibre and high fluids with fruits is good to avoid constipation and thereby pain relief.
The wound normally takes 4-6 weeks to heal that is what nature takes so have patience and keep the wound free from stools and sticky dirt that keeps coming.

I would suggest to keep it open. You may place a clean handkerchief to cover it. Do site bath twice daily. But do follow your treating doctorâs advice.
