Food poisoning is a very common case and, therefore, requires attention. It is caused because of the pathogens contaminating the food items. The side effects of food poisoning include diarrhea, vomiting and an unusual sensation in the stomach. After the food poisoning, stomach requires some rest. The person should be extra conscious about the meals and food items they are going to consume. Being cautious and consuming the right food item will result in fast recovery. If taken care all the time, then there are less chances of one suffering from food poisoning.
Opting for mild food will help in the recovery process during the food poisoning. Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast - often referred to as the BRAT diet is to be included in the food poisoning diet. Staying hydrated and consuming more amounts of water will keep the digestion process smooth. Also, it will help in calming the stomach. Consuming liquid diet that contains electrolytes will prevent in the dehydration. Low-fiber and low fat foods should be a must, as these will not give stress to the stomach. Food Items To Limit
- Spicy food : In the case of food poisoning, spicy foods can irritate your stomach.
- Fried food and Heavy sauces : Foods that are heavier are not as easily digested and may temporarily worsen symptoms.
- Dairy : Some bacteria and viruses distort, shorten, and damage the villi that line the intestine.
- What made you sick in the first place : Wash hands before eating, use hand sanitizer if you don't have access to a sink. Avoid unpasteurized fruit juices and unpasteurized milk and milk products. Eat food that is fully cooked and served hot, and avoid tap water and ice.

- Keep in mind that not all cases of stomach upset are food poisoning. Your illness could be related to a virus, side effects from certain medications, and drinking too much alcohol. Of course, you can rule out two of those. If you haven’t recently drank too much and you haven’t started any new medication, you know that you either have a virus or food poisoning. Generally, there are enough differences in symptoms to recognize the difference between the two.
- Home care can often manage the symptoms of food poisoning to ease your discomfort until you recover. There are two main things to do: ease the nausea and avoid dehydration. You need to eat more bland foods while you recover from the food poisoning. Throughout the time that you are vomiting, eat foods like the following: Plain crackers, Rice, Plain bread & Bananas.
- You need to avoid any foods that could upset your stomach further. This would include anything fried or greasy, anything spicy, or foods that are overly sweet. Avoid taking any over the counter medications since they could actually aggravate your condition.
- If you are experiencing a great deal of nausea and vomiting, you are at risk of dehydration. To ensure you don’t become dehydrated, make sure you are getting enough to drink. Only choose clear fluids like water, juice, and sports beverages. Don’t drink soda, milk, coffee, or tea since they could make you feel worse.

- Banana : Potassium and sodium are the main ones your body needs, and they work together to help your body retain water for optimal hydration.
- Rice : It's pretty high in fiber, which is usually super healthy, but harder for your stomach to digest, so it's white rice all the way.
- Toast : White toast are among the simplest foods for your stomach to handle.
- Take a probiotic : If you end up taking antibiotics for whatever you have, not only do they (hopefully) kill the bug, but they also wipe out the good bacteria residing in your body.
