Gallbladder Stone
Hi,
I am Dr. Nitin Jain, Surgical Gastroenterologist. Today I will talk about gallbladder stones. It is a very common problem all over the world. Everyone must have seen in and around this problem. But still, there are many doubts and myths about the gallbladder stones. When someone should get operated and do they require an operation? No, I don't think so. Not all patients require this operation. But that doesn't mean that no one should get operated in spite of having gallbladder stones. So, it is a balanced decision. There is no medicine for gallbladder stones. Is there anything by which we can remove the stones?
No. So, gallbladder stones cause pain in the abdomen, the problem indigestion, it can also cause gangrene, jaundice, pancreatitis which can be serious and life-threatening. So, when this complication occurs, someone will definitely require an operation for gallbladder stones. But should anyone wait till these complications happened? No. Gallbladder stones are a very common problem in India, especially in North India. Even cancer of the gallbladder is very common. So, the patient is coming from North India, I will always advise operation because they still have 30-40 years of life to go. So, rather than experience severe complications, it is always better to get operated when someone is fit and healthy.
Gallbladder stones are not going to get disappear by any kind of medicines or anything. Gallbladder stones are metabolic problems. There are multiple factors which are involved in this problem. When someone has gallbladder stones, he/she should consult. You should not ignore. Otherwise, you can land up in a big serious problem. Because I do see patients where they come in an emergency with a serious problem like acute pancreatitis and gangrene of gallbladder. So, I am not advising to go for an operation. But there are patients who really require help and consultation and operation. Nowadays gallbladder stones can be treated with laparoscopy which is keyhole surgery.
It can be done in daycare sit and a very short stay in the hospital. When the patient is healthy and fit, surgery can be done very peacefully without any complications. We have to balance everything then only we should take a call for gallbladder stones. So, it is not that it is not harmful. Because if it will not be treated, so many complications can arise. So, it is totally up to you whether you want to have the complications or not. So, I would advise to consult a Dr and a surgeon and take a balanced decision rather than just ignoring or listening to anyone. Because of gallbladder stones, symptoms can be life-threatening. So, I hope you have understood whatever I have spoken.
Thank You!
