The patient should rest in bed till the acute symptoms subside. He should not be given any solid foods for the first few days of the treatment. Yes a cause of elevated liver transaminase levels is muscle injury. Strenuous exercise or myopathy can cause elevations (especially of ast) without causing any other symptoms. Annual screening of healthy, asymptomatic patients for liver disease using alt and ast levels is not useful.
