Diabetes is a major health problem that is affecting a large population globally. It results in too much sugar in the blood. Diabetes and insulin are very much related to each other. Are you wondering how?

First let us know, what Insulin is? Insulin is a hormone made in the cells of the pancreas, and one of its major roles is to help regulate and control your blood sugar. Alterations in the insulin level in your body lead to high and low sugar levels.

Let us have a look at the importance of insulin:

  • It helps balance your blood glucose levels

  • It causes cells throughout the body to absorb the sugar in your system and use them for energy

When a person is suffering from acute diabetes, he has to control and regulate the insulin levels in the body, so that they do not trigger any major health problem. Therefore, insulin must be taken, which can be either injected in the body or inhaled. Injections of insulin are used as a replacement or supplement to the body’s insulin and can help treat diabetes. But nowadays, you also have the option of Inhaled Insulin.

What is inhaled insulin?

Inhaled insulin comes with an inhaler just like the people with asthma use. By using it you breathe a fine insulin powder which goes into your lungs. From there, it enters your blood through tiny blood vessels. Afrezza is one of the most popular inhaled insulin available in the market. People who are afraid of syringes or need immediate insulin dosage, use inhaled insulin for quick results. But there are some side effects which should be kept in mind:

  • Cough is very common whenever you are on a dose of Afrezza or any other inhaled form of insulin.

  • Hypoglycemia is also a common adverse effect that has been seen in people.

  • Weight gain may occur with some insulin therapies like Afrezza because of the anomalies caused in the system.

  • Afrezza increases the count of anti-insulin organisms inside the body.

Now you know that with the benefits of inhaled insulin, you also get a list of side effects as well. So you must consult with your doctor before you take any kind of inhaled insulin because wrong dosage or use can cause serious health issues.
