Invisible Braces: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

Last Updated: Dec 10, 2024

What is the treatment?

Invisible braces are the latest technology in the field of orthodontics. It is ideal for the people who want their teeth to be straightened but are conscious about their appearance and do not want wires to be hanging from their teeth all the time. This process can straighten your crooked teeth without the use of metal, ceramic, wires or any lingual brackets. These braces work just like the conventional ones and correct irregular or protruding tooth/ teeth. Adults who do not wish to meddle with their looks and are running short of time can go for this slightly more expensive process. This treatment is painless and does not require anaesthesia or hospitalisation.

How is the treatment done?

This is a stage by stage process. The orthodontist will start by taking a full x ray of your teeth and jaw along with the impressions of your gums. Making these braces out of clear plastic or acrylic material, may take about a month. The first set of these clear aligners are then inserted in your mouth. These are removable but must be worn throughout the day with the exception of the time when you are eating, brushing or flossing. The set should be worn for two or three weeks before it is replaced by the next set. You must keep making regular appointments with your orthodontist to check the progress.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Invisible braces are effective for people facing situations like spacing in between teeth, crowding of teeth, overbite, under bite, deep bite and open bite conditions.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

Patients with the need to rotate canines or premolars may not find this to be the best option. You must also be disciplined enough to keep the trays in for at least 22 hours a day.

How long does it take to recover?

It may take about a year to get your teeth corrected with the use of invisible braces.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The process of getting your teeth aligned with the use of clear aligners may cost you between ₹100000 - ₹ 400000.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

The results of invisible braces are permanent. They last throughout the person’s life.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

You can go for conventional methods of teeth straightening like braces made up of ceramic, stainless steel or other materials. These are fairly less expensive.
