Japanese Encephalitis Symptoms
Last Updated: Apr 13, 2020
When the body of a person is working normal and in healthy condition, its temperature will remain in normal range of 98.6 degree Fahrenheit. But in infection of any virus, bacteria or others can rise the temperature of body upto 103-104 degree Fahrenheit. Japanese encephalitis is also causing high fever that is observed from very first day of infection. Once a person experiences high fever and headache for more than 3 days, then it must be informed to medical professional.
tremors
This viral infection is damaging the membrane present in around the brain and leads to difficulty or inability to control the peripheral muscles. A condition of involuntary, uncontrollable rhythmic contraction of one or more parts of body leading to shaking movements is called as tremors. Tremors can persist for some time without any break in between and it can last for constant time in many cases. If a person is experiencing shaking movements of hands, arms, legs, and torso and also suffering from viral infection, he or she should consult the doctor for further investigation about the condition because it is one of the severe symptoms of Japanese encephalitis.
nausea
In Japanese encephalitis, people are having feeling of nausea as one of the sign associated with it. This symptom is non-specific and occurs because of any underlying medical condition of body. A feeling of voluntary or involuntary removal of content of stomach is commonly occurring in viral infections like flu, Japanese encephalitis etc. People suffering from viral infections like Japanese encephalitis and stomach flu are commonly experience nausea and vomiting type of symptoms; indicating severe disease condition if lasts for more than 3 days and recurring at high frequencies.
vomiting
As many people are encountering nausea (feeling of vomiting) in this disease, vomiting is also noted as incident in Japanese encephalitis. In vomiting, there is a forcefully withdrawal of content present in stomach is happening. Nausea is feeling of vomiting but it is not always leads to vomit whereas vomiting is an action of throwing up the content from food. These both symptoms are interconnected and if observed with high fever and headache, muscular weakness etc. like symptoms then it should be informed to doctor.
stiff neck
A condition of difficulty in moving neck is felt by person suffering from Japanese encephalitis because this viral infection is affecting the central nervous system controlling the whole system of movements. Stiff neck may also occur when people sleep or sits in inappropriate manner but when its occurrence is lasting for longer period of time and it does not get back to normal after trying some home remedies or taking over-the counter drugs, it should be informed to doctor for further investigation. Stiff neck can be an indicative sign for Japanese encephalitis.
spastic paralysis
Spastic paralysis is a neurological condition where person have a rapid onset of uncontrolled movements in legs and arms generally. This symptom is observed in patients of Japanese encephalitis after short febrile illness. Spastic paralysis is one form of paralysis, in which patient suffer from hyper-irritation of the nerves controlling muscle movement and this happens because infection like Japanese encephalitis or meningitis or some other type of injury had damaged the part of nervous system controlling coordination movements of voluntary muscles.
stupor
Stupor is a condition when the both sides of brain or the part maintaining consciousness get damaged due to injury or infections. Stupor is one of the symptoms associated with Japanese encephalitis along with symptoms like tremors, stiff neck, convulsions etc. In stupor condition, patient is unresponsive to any type of external stimulations and it is either difficult to evoke or awake person. Patient in stupor can only be awaken if there is a vigorous physical stimulation such as loud calling, repeated shaking; which can be described as deep or very long state of unresponsiveness.
disorientation
A state of being confused about what happened, when happened or where happened can be described as disorientation. A person does not know his identity or location or something when asked. Commonly, this symptom is associated with dementia but it can occur in Japanese encephalitis disease because this infection can affect person’s state of mind. There will be difficulties experienced by patient with disorientation can be in thinking and behavior, and performing daily tasks. In such circumstances, people should stay close to the patient and try to make surroundings familiar with patient.
coma
If a person suffering from Japanese encephalitis then he or she may be at higher risk to coma. Coma is state of complete unconsciousness with closed eyes generally and a person cannot move his limp away from any type of harmful events. In such type of condition, there may be a chance of automatic reflexes but people are lacking in any type of purposeful responses. Due to damage to the part of the brain controlling consciousness, coma can b considered in association with Japanese encephalitis and once patient went in coma state, he or she cannot be aroused or evoked for a significant length of time.
convulsions in children
Convulsions can be observed in children if they are affected with flavivirus causing Japanese encephalitis. In this condition, children may experience uncontrollable muscle contractions and may be many times referred to seizure, an electrical disturbance in the brain. Child encounters muscle contraction in a specific part of body or in whole body lasting for few seconds or minutes. If child have convulsions place them on the floor and clear the area if any hard or sharp objects are there and if it lasts for more than 5 minutes then call ambulance for emergency medical help.
