The Meniere's disease is the that causes severe dizziness due to an inner ear infection. Meniere’s disease symptoms include head spinning, headache, vomiting, uneasy feeling of ear fullness, etc. while these are extreme cases symptoms, the immediate symptoms include hearing loss, vertigo episodes, the ringing of the ear.
There is no cure but we can surely reduce the fluid flooding the ear. Change in the diet of the patient can help control the flow of the fluid. The Meniere's Disease Diet will ease the symptoms and help the patient pursue the daily routine without difficulty.
The medications for the Meniere's Disease consists of motion sickness and anti-nausea medications, which may work for some time but it is inadvisable to live on these medications for the rest of your life. It is therefore very important to administer Meniere's Disease Diet with a strict ban on some foods.
The diet includes a lot of fluids to help avoid any accumulation of fluids in the body by flushing them outside instead. Fruits and lots of vegetables are advised. The Meniere's Disease Diet has one necessary point that advises the patient to avoid foodstuffs that retain water in the body.
It is also important to turn your eating habits around for the better ones. Avoid eating too much in one sitting. The Meniere's Disease Diet tells you to spread out your meal in small proportions throughout the day. Follow the Meniere's Disease Diet plan to beat the symptoms.

Do's & Don'ts:
- Distributing food and fluid intake evenly throughout the day and from day to day.
- Avoiding foods and beverages that have a high sugar or salt content. Foods with complex sugars (e.g., those found in legumes and whole grains) are better choices than foods with a high concentration of simple sugars (e.g., table sugar and honey). Sodium intake also affects body-fluid levels and their regulation.
- Drinking adequate amounts of fluid daily. If possible, fluid loss from exercise or heat should be anticipated, and extra fluids consumed before and during exercise and in hot weather.
- Avoiding foods and beverages with caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that can make tinnitus louder. Its diuretic properties also cause excessive urinary loss of body fluids.
- Limiting or eliminating alcohol consumption. Alcohol can directly and adversely affect the inner ear by changing the volume and composition of its fluid.
- Avoiding migraine triggers including foods that contain the amino acid tyramine. Examples of such foods include red wine, chicken liver, smoked meats, yogurt, chocolate, bananas, citrus fruits, figs, ripened cheeses (e.g., cheddar and Brie), and nuts.
Food Items You Can Easily Consume
- Avoiding eating foods or fluids that are high in sodium : High salt intake results in fluctuations in the inner ear fluid pressure and may increase your symptoms. Aim for a diet high in fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains and avoid canned and processed foods. Keep sodium intake consistent from day to day.
- Distributing your food and fluid intake evenly throughout the day and from day to day : Eat approximately the same amount of food at each meal and do not skip meals. If you eat snacks, have them at regular times each day.
- Drinking adequate amounts of fluids daily : This should include water, milk and occasionally low-sugar fruit juices.
- Avoiding caffeine-containing fluids and foods : Avoid coffee, tea and chocolate. Caffeine has stimulant properties that may make your symptoms worse. Caffeine can also make tinnitus louder. Its diuretic properties also cause excessive urinary loss of body fluids. Large amounts of caffeine and/or chocolate may trigger a migraine.
- Limiting your alcohol intake to one glass per day : Alcohol may trigger migraine associated vertigo and can change the volume and composition of inner ears fluid.
- Avoiding foods containing MSG (monosodium glutamate) :This is often present in prepackaged foods and in Chinese food. It may increase symptoms in some patients and contains sodium.
