first of all avoid using nailpaint it devlope more damage to your nail. Properly cut your nail and remove the dirt. Maintain proper hygein of your nails and nail bed. Since when r you having this?What r other symptoms that you r experiencing?
By doing what like walking, exertion- itching increases or decreases in intensity. For how much time it remains?

It can be treated by removing your nail and trimming some of the nail matrix, which is the tissue your nail rests on. A split nail happens because your nail can't grow over scar tissue.
