There are no side effects of scaling. They are safe and helpful. Sensitivity comes when some kind of deposit is removed from the gum or teeth because that part becomes free for environment and can sense the touch of air and surroundings. It will last for few days and then will adapt the normal temperature.

It is adviced to get your teeth professionally cleaned once a year.
Ask your dentist to demonstrate proper brushing techniques which will help you in maintaining the natural shade of the teeth.

Post scaling this can be there not to worry you may use thermoseal ra tooth paste for few days teeth don't become weak with scaling if professionally advised in fact if you don't get scaling in time when advised you may loose teeth much early.
