Here are three significant examples:
Fleas (ctenocephalides spp.): while fleas are common and often considered a nuisance, a severe infestation can lead to life-threatening conditions. Fleas can cause anemia, especially in young or small dogs, due to excessive blood loss. Some dogs may develop an allergic reaction to flea bites, leading to a condition called flea allergy dermatitis (fad). Fad can result in intense itching, severe skin inflammation, and secondary infections. Additionally, fleas can transmit certain diseases like bartonellosis (caused by bartonella bacteria) and tapeworm infestations.
Ticks (ixodidae family): ticks are known carriers of various diseases, some of which can be life-threatening to dogs. For example, ticks can transmit lyme disease, which can cause joint inflammation, lameness, and, in severe cases, kidney disease. Other tick-borne diseases include ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis, which can cause a range of symptoms such as fever, lethargy, anemia, and organ damage. Tick paralysis is another dangerous condition that can occur when certain species of ticks release a toxin while feeding, leading to progressive paralysis that can affect the respiratory muscles.
Sarcoptic mange (sarcoptes scabiei): sarcoptic mange, also known as scabies, is caused by microscopic mites that burrow into the dog's skin, leading to intense itching and irritation. If left untreated, sarcoptic mange can result in severe hair loss, self-inflicted wounds due to scratching, and secondary bacterial infections. In some cases, widespread mange infestations can weaken a dog's immune system, making them susceptible to other diseases.
It's important to promptly address any ectoparasite issues in dogs to prevent these life-threatening conditions. If you suspect your dog has an ectoparasite infestation or if they are showing symptoms of a related disease, consult a veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Conclusion Mosquitoes can transmit some of the deadliest diseases that one would never wish to come into contact with. They feed on human blood using their sharp mouthparts called proboscis. These mouthparts are inserted into the skin, and the mosquito sucks blood.
After feeding, the mosquito injects saliva, which contains an anti-clotting agent called platelet aggregation inhibitor. All this can be as disgusting and dangerous as it sounds. So, you must follow the tips given in this article to keep deadly mosquitoes away from you and your loved ones.
Moreover, you should also know that mosquitoes typically lay eggs in stagnant water, like that present in rain puddles. Also, keep in mind that these pesky insects are most active between dusk and dawn.

;","dateCreated":"","author":{"@type":"Physician","name":"Dr.Somesh Mehrotra","medicalSpecialty":"General Physician","image":"https://assets.lybrate.com/null","url":"https://www.lybrate.com/bareilly/doctor/dr-somesh-mehrotra-general-physician"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"LikeAction","userInteractionCount":"0"}}},{"@context":"http://schema.org","@type":"Question","text":"Types Of Leprosy!","answerCount":null,"acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","upvoteCount":"0","text":"Leprosy, also known as Hansen s Disease is considered to be one of the contagious diseases present in the world. All throughout the history disease like Leprosy are always looked with fear and often misunderstood by people. Even it is diagnosed and treated early, it is still a chronic disease. It is curable and treatment and care in the initial stages can ward off most disabilities. This disease mainly affects the skin, eyes, the peripheral nerves, and the mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract. It can occur at any age, starting from early infancy to extreme old age. Leprosy usually caused by the red-shaped and acid-fast bacillus known as Mycobacterium leprae. The disease is defined by the number and type of sores on the skin. These are listed below:
(A) Tuberculoid Leprosy:
It affects peripheral nerves and sometimes the surrounding skin, especially on the face, eyes, and testes as well as the nerves and the skin. Lepromin is positive, but the organism is rarely isolated from lesions. Macules are elevated with clearing at the centre and are more clearly defined than in the lepromatous form. Anaesthesia is present, and involvement of the peripheral nerves occur more rapidly than in the lepromatous form.
(B) Lepromatous Leprosy:
The most serious type and considered to be the most infectious. It causes damage of respiratory tract, eyes, and testes as well as the nerves and the skin. Lepromin test is negative but the skin lesion contains a large amount of Hansen s bacillus. There is a gradual thickening of the skin with the development of the granulomatous condition. Lesion frequently appear as muscles, becoming nodular in character (leproma). There is a slow involvement of the peripheral nerves, with some degree of anaesthesia and loss of sensation and the gradual destruction of the nerves. There is atrophy of the skin the muscles and eventual absorption of small bones, primarily the bones of the hands and feet. There is ulceration of the mucous membrane of the mucous. Because of the absorption of small bones and ulceration, natural amputation may occur.
(C) Borderline Leprosy:
Both the symptoms of tuberculoid and lepromatous can be seen in these cases. Skin lesion in this type is diffuse and poorly defined.","dateCreated":"","author":{"@type":"Physician","name":"Dr.Sanjeev Kumar Singh","medicalSpecialty":"Ayurvedic Doctor","image":"https://assets.lybrate.com/img/documents/doctor/dp/bd61ff467f23e7052f5c15d0b1aa2af9/Ayurveda-SanjeevKumarSingh-Lakhimpur-Kheri-f5c6dd","url":"https://www.lybrate.com/lakhimpur-kheri/doctor/dr-sanjeev-kumar-singh-ayurveda"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"LikeAction","userInteractionCount":"0"}}},{"@context":"http://schema.org","@type":"Question","text":"World Leprosy Day - Know More About It!","answerCount":null,"acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","upvoteCount":"0","text":"What is Leprosy? Leprosy is also known as Hansen s disease. It is a chronic dermatological disorder caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium Leprae. The peripheral nerves and mucosa of the upper respiratory tract are affected by the bacteria. Leprosy starts with the appearance of scaly skin lesions. If not treated in the primary stage, it can progress rapidly and cause permanent damage to the skin. It can damage the eyes, nerves and limbs. Leprosy can be moderately contagious, therefore it is necessary for the patient to be quarantined during the course of the treatment to prevent the spread of disease among other family members. World Leprosy Day raises awareness of a disease that many people believe to be extinct. Today it is not just the disease that is forgotten, but the people too.
Etiology Agent - Mycobacterium Leprae is an acid-fast bacilli that attach cutaneous tissues and peripheral nerves, producing skin lesions, anaesthesia, infection, and deformities. The contrary of popular believes leprosy is not highly contagious but actually has low infectivity.
What is the Incubation period? It ranges from five and a half months to eight years.
What is the Mode of Transmission? It transmits through the respiratory droplet. Another mode of transmission is inoculation through the skin break and mucous membrane.
What is the Pathology of Leprosy? M. leprae attacks the peripheral nerves, especially the ulnar, radial, posterior-popliteal, anterior-tibial, and facial nerves. When the bacilli damage the skin fine nerves, they cause anaesthesia, anhidrosis, and dryness. If they attack the large nerve trunk, motor nerve damage, weakness, and pain occur, followed by peripheral anaesthesia muscles paralysis and atrophy. Claw Hand, foot drop, and ocular manifestation, such as corneal sensitivity and ulceration, conjunctivitis, photophobia, and blindness. It can invade the tissue and organ of the body. In lepromatous diseases, early lesions are multiple, symmetrical and erythematous, sometimes appearing as macules or papules or papules with smooth surfaces. Later these lesions enlarged and formed plaques on nodules on the earlobes, nose, eyebrows, and forehead, giving the patient a leonine appearance.
What are the Clinical Manifestations?
Loss of eyebrows and eyelashes. It also leads to loss of function of sweat and sebaceous glands. Epistaxis, ulceration of the uvula and tonsil, septal perforation and nasal collapse. Raised, large erythematous plaques appear on the skin with clearly defined borders. As they grow, they become rough, hairless and hypopigmented and leaves an anaesthetic scar. Diagnostic Procedures to be followed -
Identification of the signs and symptoms Tissue Biopsy Tissue smear Blood tests show increased RBC, ESR, decrease Ca, albumin and cholesterol level. Modalities of Treatment -
Sulfone therapy Multiple Drug therapy Rehabilitation, recreational and occupational therapy. Nursing Management - If the patient is admitted to the hospital, isolation and medical asepsis should be carried out. Also, give moral support and encouragement.
Prevention to be taken -
Report all cases and suspected of leprosy Newborn infants should be separated from leprous mother BCG vaccine may be protective if given during the first 6 months of life Health education as to the mode of transmission.","dateCreated":"","author":{"@type":"Physician","name":"Dr.Sanjeev Kumar Singh","medicalSpecialty":"Ayurvedic Doctor","image":"https://assets.lybrate.com/img/documents/doctor/dp/bd61ff467f23e7052f5c15d0b1aa2af9/Ayurveda-SanjeevKumarSingh-Lakhimpur-Kheri-f5c6dd","url":"https://www.lybrate.com/lakhimpur-kheri/doctor/dr-sanjeev-kumar-singh-ayurveda"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"LikeAction","userInteractionCount":"0"}}},{"@context":"http://schema.org","@type":"Question","text":"Symptoms Of Leprosy!","answerCount":null,"acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","upvoteCount":"0","text":"The symptoms of leprosy are hard to identify at the initial stages. If you suddenly experience unbearable joint pain with symptoms of fever, consult a doctor immediately. Even the name Chikungunya etymologically means \"to become twisted\". If you are having the aforementioned symptoms, there is a high chance you are suffering from Chikungunya.
Symptoms of Chikungunya: Chikungunya affects your body within 3-4 days of the mosquito bite. The first sign of Chikungunya is sudden fever, which causes mild tremors in your body accompanied by severe pain and swelling of the joints. A headache and pain in the muscles are other two symptoms of this disease. The most glaring indication that you are suffering from it is the excessive joint pain you experience. This pain usually lasts for a few days to a couple of weeks. If left untreated, this disease can prove to be fatal.
The joint pain will have a paralyzing effect on your body resulting in extreme pain. Your finger joints and foot exhibit signs of swelling, causing severe pain. You will experience pain in your hip, wrists and elbows. Other symptoms of the disease include neurological and mild cardiac complications. You may even complain of having an eyesore. Also, there are chances of you suffering from gastrointestinal problems. However, none of these symptoms will be as severe as the excruciating joint pain you experience. Some preventive measures can be taken, them being:
Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Get plenty of sleep. It might be impossible for you to sleep especially when you are having body aches. Thus ask your doctor for some painkillers which will let you rest. Paracetamol is a must to beat fever and joint pain. Anti-inflammatory pills will be strictly recommended by your doctor to treat the inflammation. Use a mosquito net at night Keep your house clean so that the Chikungunya mosquitoes don't thrive","dateCreated":"","author":{"@type":"Physician","name":"Dr.J Vishvathan","medicalSpecialty":"General Physician","image":"https://assets.lybrate.com/null","url":"https://www.lybrate.com/ahmedabad/doctor/dr-soham-anand-general-physician"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":"LikeAction","userInteractionCount":"0"}}}]
Pain or paresthesia at the site of the bite is well known as a diagnostically useful prodromal symptom occurring in one third to two thirds of cases. In Thailand, however, a specific type of paresthesia itching was the earliest symptom in >40% of cases. Itching occurred at the site of the healed bite wound or involved the whole bitten limb and was sometimes so intense as to provoke frenzied scratching and excoriation of the skin.
