Last Updated: Apr 09, 2020
If there is need of more oxygen and nutrients during performing any normal physical activity, it expresses a condition of heart failure. Person suffering of such condition may be unable to tolerate exercise as well as mild physical exertion and complains about being exhausted due to extra stress on his heart. The muscles of heart being weak still tries to pump the blood from it to whole body and requires more efforts to do so, resulting into feeling of tired or fatigue. When heart failure occurring in women, it may shows certain symptoms similar to flu like shortness of breath and fatigue and should not be get misdiagnosed.
Shortness of Breath When Lying Flat (Orthopnea)
Orthopnea is also a form of breathlessness which is appearing during a recumbent position or when person lie down and get improved when he sit up or stand. This symptom is different from dyspnea as it is occurring when person is in non-strenuous positions. It is due to increased pressure on lung’s wall, in lung capillaries and veins causing fluid leak out into the lungs. Some individuals are also experiencing chest pain in their horizontal position. If person needs three pillows to recover from such difficulty of breathing, he should be taken to hospital as it is a sever orthopnea symptom causing heart failure.
Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea (PND)
Dyspnea is condition where person is not getting enough breath or oxygen and it is sometimes described as term, air hunger. Dyspnea occurring at night with a feeling of severe anxiety, breathlessness, and suffocation, is termed as Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea. The word PND is together a combination of an episode of symptoms that occurs suddenly and may reoccur; especially at nighttime with shortness of breath or uncomfortable breathing problems. Certain cases had observed that PND is getting subside in almost half an hour’s time but if it won’t, then patient should need emergency medical assistance.
Pleural Effusions
Heart is an organ working through coordination with the lungs in which heart pumps blood from the veins through the lungs where oxygen is added to blood and it moves to the arteries. A fluid gets accumulated in the pleural region of the lungs that is separating the surface of lungs with the inside of the chest. When heart is facing congestive heart failure, it will not pump the blood properly in the body. Such fluid retention in lungs causing difficulty in breathing and it can most commonly associate with the congestive heart failure.
loss of appetite
Many people faced loss of appetite, mild indigestion and other gastrointestinal problems which are linked to the occurrence of heart failure. Under such circumstances, blood is not correctly supplying to the other body organs such as gastrointestinal region or digestive system. Due to blood is being moved away from digestive systems, person may feel loss of appetite and it is usually if a person have heart failure. The organs like liver and gut are covered with build in fluid and interfere with the digestion processes.
nausea
A feeling of vomiting or nausea can be taken as a sign of congestive heart failure as blood flow is getting reduced during this condition. Many people are encountering a feeling of being full or nauseous even they have not eaten a food or a less amount of it. A symptoms of nausea are faced along with other symptoms like breathlessness and chest pain arising from left arm to chest, it is an indication of heart failure and immediate consultation to doctor is advised.
confusion
Conditions like confusions and decreased alertness are considered as first signs of having serious illnesses, which can be cardiac problems such as congestive heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, etc. These signs are observed due to lack supply of blood to the brain making a person unable to think cl, memory loss, feeling of disorientations and problems with memory or ability to understand languages. Such symptoms are generally noticed by the caregiver as he is the first point of contact with the sufferer. Other cause behind this condition is changes in levels of certain substance such as sodium in the blood supplied to the brain.
problems thinking,
During development of congestive heart failure, a person’s heart fails to function properly where one of the chambers of it gets damaged or stopped to keep up with the volume of blood flowing though. Generally, systolic heart failure occurs in patient suffering from high blood pressure where the heart is weak and enlarged. Under such condition, heart is not able to provide the sufficient amount of oxygenated and nutrient-filled blood to the vital organs and other parts of the body systems. Problem in thinking is associated with the heart failure because of blood transferred to the brain contains less nutrients and oxygen.
