Symptoms Of High Blood Sugar

One of the most common symptoms of increased blood sugar is headache. If a person is suffering from headache then it is a signal that the blood sugar of the person is out of control. Although headaches are not harmful but frequent headaches need to be reported to the doctor. a headache from hyperglycemia might take more than several days to for development. This results in slow appearance of symptoms. However, headaches are considered as one of the sign of high blood sugar level. The pain caused by headache might worsen with uncontrolled sugar levels.

Blurred Vision

If a person has increased blood sugar level then it might have an effect on the retina of the eye. This condition is called diabetic retinopathy. This may result in person getting blurry vision. Having increased blood sugar levels can lead to both long term and short term effect on the eyes. If diabetes in a person remains uncontrolled for a long period of time then it might damage the small blood vessels over a period of time. This creates a blurred vision. A person might suffer from short term blurriness if a fluid in the eye moves both in and out of the eye due to increased blood sugar level. This results in the lens of the eyes getting swollen. Due to the change in the shape blurriness might occur. This symptom is not temporary but proper management of diabetes can slower the progression of the condition.

Frequent Urination

If a person is suffering from increased blood sugar then it might be extremely taxing for his/her kidneys. It is the role of the kidneys to process that sugar. If the kidneys are it functioning properly then majority of the glucose is eliminated from the body in the form of urine. This further leads to excessive draining out of fluids which are important for hydrating the body of a person. People with uncontrolled blood sugar are often victims of dehydration due to diabetic peeing. One of the most important sign of this condition is when a person wakes up frequently to urinate. If this condition worsens it must be immediately reported to the doctor.

Increased Thrist

One of the hallmark symptoms of diabetes is when a person starts feeling excessive thirst. This condition is also called polydipsia. When a person is dehydrated then it is normal to feel thirsty. This may be either due to sweating heavily, eating something salty and spicy, or due to not drinking water properly. Increased levels of sugar in the body can lead to kidneys going into overdrive so that they can get rid of the excessive sugar. This leads to frequent urination. Due to excessive loss of water from the body makes a person feel thirsty all the time. This condition would continue if the blood sugar levels are not managed properly.

Problem in Concetrating

Increased blood sugar level can have an effect on the brain as well. People who have uncontrolled blood sugar levels might find it difficult to concentrate. This problem of concentration not only occurs in the kids but also in adults. The memory of the person also gets affected if the blood sugar levels are not managed properly.

Dry Mouth

If a person has uncontrolled blood sugar level then he/she might experience the symptoms of dry mouth. However, it may be surprising to know that dry mouth can also cause diabetes. If a person is suffering from dry mouth then he/she can experience decaying of teeth. Dry mouth might also lead to altered sense of taste, loss of sleep, and sour or metallic taste in mouth. If the saliva is not flowing properly flowing in the mouth it is important to consult the doctor. There are several products in the market that might stimulate salivation.

Increased Hunger

One of the major symptoms of diabetes is increased hunger. When the diabetes is poorly controlled then the glucose from the blood is not able to enter cells. This may be due to lack of insulin resistance or insulin. Thus the body is not able to convert food into energy. This lack of energy makes a person feel hungry a lot more. Feeling hungry all the time will only increase the blood sugar level which was already not under control.

Confusion

If a person has increased blood sugar level then he/she might suffer from the symptom of mental confusion. A person might forget what he/she is doing while doing the work. A person might forget or lose important objects. There may be a foggy feeling in the brain. Confusion due to increased blood sugar level might lead to a person taking long pauses while speaking as he/she might be confused about thoughts he/she might have in mind.

Shortness of Breath

In some of the people uncontrolled diabetes can have an adverse effect on the breathing. Shortness of breath is due to diabetic ketoacidosis. This is a condition which is caused by increased blood sugar level along with enhanced levels of ketones in the blood. Uncontrolled diabetes can also have an effect on the kidneys which may lead to shortness of breath. If this condition worsens, a doctor must be consulted immediately

Abdominal Pain

A person that has increased blood sugar level might suffer from the condition of gastroparesis. It is a condition in which there is a delay in the emptying of the stomach contents. Sometimes the contents might get retained in the stomach. This can cause abdominal pain in a person. A doctor must be consulted immediately to alleviate the problem of abdominal pain. The doctor may prescribe some medications to provide relief.
