Cancer is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells in an area of our body. It can be due to loss of function of tumor suppressor genes or due to increased function of oncogenes.

Cancer is abnormal uncontrolled proliferation of cells leading to formation of lumps. It may also present as nonhealing ulceration, abnormal bleeding, weight loss, fever, change in bowelor bladder habits sore throat etc, depending on the organ effected. Some cancers are hereditary and can be transferred from one generation to other like breast cancer, ovarian cancer, family of cancer syndrome like men etc. But the percentage of familial cancers are only 5-7%. Rest are mostly acquired.

Dear mam, cancer arises from cells within out body. The cells become uncontrolled and autonomous and cause symptoms like lumps, bleeding, ulceration, abnormal weight loss, fever, altered bowel habits etc. These symptoms may be due to other diseases as well but only if they continue for a long period like over a month or so, seek medical advice.

Cancer presents as uncontrolled proliferation of cells leading to symptoms like palpable lump, ulceration, abnormal bleeding from anywhere, weight loss, difficulty in swallowing, change in voice, change in bowelor bladder habits, throat pain etc. One has to go for complete examination of body for any obvious lesion, some radiological investigations like chest xray, ultrasound abdomen etc, blood investigation for cancer markers and routine urine and stool examination. Dear mam, cancer cervix may present as abnormal bleeding, it may be profuse intermenstrual or bleeding in between periods, discharge per vaginum, post menopausal bleeding, spotting after intercourse, back pain, abdominal pain etc. Ovarian cancers are mostly hidden for long as they may not produce any symptoms, mostly present as irregular periods, abdominal pain, distension or swelling of abdomen etc.
