Hello and welcome to Lybrate. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. These problems are not collective. They are individual behavioral problems usually come to adolescent children. Behavioral therapy is the only treatment option. I suggest telephonic counseling and online psychotherapy for you.

You need to sit and talk to him and make him understand the situation. Ask him I need to talk to you, what is a convenient time. Go and talk at his given time. Be patient, do not show your anger (even if you ard angry), try to make him understand, do not be persuasive and finish the discussion.

Hi,
it is better to take your son for therapy for his addiction to gaming. The therapist would advise you ways to handle him and learn limit setting. If he doesn't have major behavioral symptoms, medication is not required. I would suggest you meet a clinical psychologist.
Thanks.

My child aged 17 years is studying in 12th science in a convent school, since last 2-3 months he is addicted to a mobile game named pub g, he is playing this game on mobile about 6 to 8 hours daily in night and also in day time whenever he gets opportunity to do so. Since last 4 years he has a tendency to get addicted to various things which is distracting his studies and well being. Last 2 years he was addicted to billiards game and spent hours in pool club, some how we took him out of pool club and now this year he has taken to pub g.Till 9th & 10th he was a good student and scored 70% marks in 10th std but after 10th he has slipped badly and passed 11th on border line. But this year in 12th he has not even started his studies and only 2-3 months are remaining for board exams. We have tried every possible steps such as not recharge internet or take away his mobile, even principal and class teacher of his school has counselled him but in vain. I have tried to counsel him with my family and friends also but without any success. His behaviour has also degraded poorly, and he is not even doing his daily routine regularly, not interacting with family, friends and has also having dietary problems. One of the main issues is that he never responds to us when we ask or explain him about healthy living style. Sir I am fearing that this may grow into some disorder. Sir 2 years back I had tried and took him to a wel known psychiatrist in mumbai, but my son refused to take the prescribed medicines and also did not agree for counselling after medication. Sir please suggest what to do?

What is his age, have you consulted a child counsellor. Check whether his grades are getting affected. The person whom he listens to must make years son understand the side effects of video game s and then freeze a particular time for these games and make a routine.
