The Easy Pose, or Sukhasana, as its name suggests, is a easy and simple yoga pose that focuses on your breathing and hence helps to regulate asthma symptoms. It is excellent for controlling stress and relaxing your muscles thus keeping internal triggers for asthma in control. Start in a seated position with your legs crossed, keep your hands on top of your knees either palm up or palm down. Then breathe in and out deeply in a rhythmic fashion.

Corpse Pose

The Savasana or the Corpse pose is called as such because it requires a person to stay immobile. Savasana helps to relax both the body and the mind, improves concentration and can help regulate sleep and keep stress at bay. The pose starts by lying on your back with your hands at your side, palms facing upward. Focus on your breathing, making it slow and rhythmic and stay in the position for 5-10 minutes.

Forward Bend

The forward bending pose helps stretch out the upper body hence opening up the lungs for a natural method of relief from asthma. Start the pose in a standing position with your legs apart, bend forward slowly and bend your knees a little to avoid strain. Try touching your feet with your hands or touch the floor and hold the position for five breaths.

Bridge Pose

The bridge pose or the Sethu Bandhasana is a great yoga pose for asthma because it helps to open up the lungs and stretches the chest to aid opening up of the airways and hence help in easy breathing. Start the pose lying on your back with your knees bent and hands by your side. Lift your hips off the floor, making sure that your thighs are parallel to the floor. Hold for 30 seconds and as you lower to the ground, exhale.

Cobra Pose

The cobra pose or Bhujangasana improves circulation and flow of oxygen throughout the body and helps control asthma symptoms. This pose opens up the passageways of the lungs, improves your flexibility and stretches out the muscles of your chest.

Apart from following regular yoga for asthma, it is necessary to consume a healthy diet. Since obesity also causes asthma. People who have asthma should intake diet rich in vitamin C and E, magnesium, selenium and omega fatty acids. Also, Do not forget to take your regular asthma medicines along with yoga therapy as medication play an important role to control your disease.
